New Linux firmware available

Released the new version of the firmware update utility for all GNU/Linux distributions. With this release we have arrived at the 1.8.7 edition which, in addition to the usual series of fixed bugs, introduces new and interesting features for all users, which translate into support for an ever-increasing range of hardware. Among the beneficiaries of this new firmware we find the Star Lab branded laptops including, apparently, there will also be the brand new StarFighter, which will be the first laptop in the house to have a screen with Ultra HD resolution, i.e. 4K. Intel's Iris Xe MAX discrete graphics processing units, dedicated to laptops, will also be supported by this new firmware release, although only experimentally for now. Of course, its field of action is not limited to these specific hardware, as there are many new devices supported, such as Elan touchpads and various fingerprint recognition systems. Also introduced is support for Anker's Thunderbolt 4 Mini Hub and QSI Godzilla Creek Reference Hub. On the software front, we have support for the xz compression format for metadata which, according to estimates, should reduce bandwidth usage for firmware file downloads by 25%. Also introduced is the ability to measure system health when UEFI updates are installed. As far as bug fixes are concerned, it's worth noting the new ability to parse metadata larger than 1MB, the correctness checking of the permissions of the built-in plug-in configuration files, and the addition of the re-entry for Analogix devices.
